The electronically offered Graduate Certificate in Technical Writing and Communication is intended to allow a student or employed worker to develop and enhance his or her writing skills for the present-day workplace. The program will train students in technical communication, including text formatting, types of documents and reports, graphics, and oral communication. In addition, students will receive instruction in editing the work of others and an opportunity to engage in real-world technical writing.

The certificate will require the completion of 15 semester hours of graduate course work, with at least 12 hours in technical writing courses; the curriculum and options within it are outlined under the Courses Offered link to your left.

To earn a Graduate Certificate in Technical Writing and Communication from Louisiana Tech University, a student must successfully complete five 500-level English courses in technical writing; or four 500-level and one 400-level English courses in technical writing; or four 500-level courses and an additional approved graduate level course; or four 500- level courses and a three-hour capstone course or internship approved by the Coordinator of Technical Writing. This second option accommodates two different groups of students: engineering graduate students seeking the certificate in technical writing and working on approved, supervised projects in engineering that would count as a capstone course or internship; and students seeking the certificate and wishing to count one supervised internship or current/ongoing job experience for credit.

Students who complete the program successfully will receive a Graduate Certificate in Technical Writing and Communication.
