Requirements to Enroll

Students may enroll in the program if they have a Bachelor’s degree and have completed English 303: Introduction to Technical Writing (or its equivalent at another accredited institution). If students did not successfully complete English 303: Introduction to Technical Writing or the equivalent in their Bachelor’s degree coursework, they may take it electronically from Louisiana Tech University before enrolling in the electronic Graduate Certificate Program in Technical Writing and Communication. To learn more about the electronic version of English 303, visit the instructor's website at http://www.ltparts.latech.edu/seller/.

Upon successful completion of English 303: Introduction to Technical Writing, students with a Bachelor’s degree may enroll in the electronic Graduate Certificate Program in Technical Writing and Communication.  Unconditional admission to the Graduate School as an unclassified graduate student in the non-degree admission category requires a 2.5 GPA on all work attempted or a 2.75 on the last 60 hours of undergraduate work.  After admittance, a student must maintain a 3.0 GPA to remain in Graduate School.

Additionally, to complete this program students will need access to basic computer equipment. This equipment is available at public facilities such as a local public library. Students will also need basic computer skills such as the ability to access a web page, send and receive email, send email attachments, and download files.

Costs

Tuition varies depending upon a student's state of residence, etc. Students enrolled in completely electronic programs pay in-state tuition, regardless of their physical residences.  Specific, up-to-date information regarding tuition, fees, and policies can be found at

http://www.ltadm.latech.edu/vpadmaff/finserv.htm

On average, graduate courses cost about $125 per credit hour, and each course in this program, excluding internships, is 3 credit hours. Therefore, enrolling in five courses for the graduate certificate, without counting the costs of books and other school supplies (which may include a computer and Internet service), would cost a student about $1,875. This estimate does not include taxes, fees, and other costs that would vary depending upon a student's situation. Many employers will pay for part or all of the tuition for professional development.

Additional Information

Upon successful completion of the coursework in the Graduate Certificate Program, students will receive a Graduate Certificate in Technical Writing and Communication. If a student desires to pursue a graduate degree after completing the Certificate, all coursework successfully completed for the Certificate can be transferred to the M.A. in English.
